The Village of Orland Park will host the Three-I Open CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) Regional Chili Cookoff on Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18, 2008 at Centennial Park, 15600 West Avenue.

Cooks from Illinois, Indiana and Iowa will compete during this two-day event. The CASI Regional Chili Cookoff takes place on Saturday. Registration is $25.00 for each head cook and $5.00 for junior cooks (age seventeen or younger and must have an adult present at all times). All head cooks receive a contest shirt and the top three cooks and top show qualify for the Terlingua International Chili Championship.TICC travel expense money will be awarded to the champion.

The Three-I Open Morning After Chili Cookoff takes place on Sunday. Registration is $18.00 (head cooks must be at least eighteen years old). All head cooks receive a contest shirt. Awards will go to the top ten chili cooks and to the top three for showmanship.

The competition includes a People's Choice Award. "As guests arrive, each will be given a ticket to leave with the cook of the chili they like best to determine the People's Choice Awards," explained Media/Special Events Manager Patty Vlazny. "The cook with the most tickets at the end of the event will be declared the People's Choice Award Winner," she added.

All chili must be cooked on site and from scratch. Chili may contain no fillers and only one chili per contestant. Judging will be based on aroma, consistency, red colore, taste and after taste. Local cooks are invited to join the competition. Applications are available at the Franklin Loebe Recreation Center or on line at www.orland-park.il.us.

"Judges are needed to judge the event in order to make it a success. We still need about ten judges on Saturday and three to five judges on Sunday," Vlazny added. Any individuals interested in judging should contact Patty Vlazny at (708)403-6145.

Public tasting at the competition will take place at 2:15 pm on Saturday and at 12:15 pm on Sunday. All-you-can-eat "tasting cups" will be available for chili lovers to purchase for $5.00 each. Proceeds benefit the Village of Orland Park Special Recreation Program on Saturday and the American Cancer Society on Sunday.
