The Village of Orland Park Veterans Commission will host its second Militry Expo and Toy Soldier Sale on Saturday, May 5 at the Orland Park Civic Center.

The entire family is invited to see military support organizations, meet service animals and enjoy this year's Toy Soldier Show and Sale from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. PAWWS service dogs will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the Animal Welfare League will have animals available for adoption at the show.

"The Orland Park Military Expo is a patriotic event for the entire family," said Orland Park Veterans Program Assistant Tom Dubelbeis. "There will be many dealers showcasing their collections available for purchase and information about many other service organizations."

Participating organizations include Aishling Companion Home Care; Orland Park American Legion Post 111; Orland Park Public Library; Reber-Tesmond Orland-Palos VFW Post 2604; PAWWS - Palos Park; Vet Tech; Will County Veterans Assistance Commission; Veterans Garage Military Truck and Veterans' Voices Military Group.

Items include uniforms, decorations, field gear, books, photos and other items from the Civil War to present. Guests are encouraged to bring in military items for appraisal or to learn more about the item. A number of toy soldier vendors are participating with soldier sets and collections.

"It's our hope that our dealers and public will continue to be supportive as we forge ahead and evolve this annual event into a bigger and better event," said Veterans Commissioner Darryl Wertheim. Outside the Civic Center located at the south parking lot, guests can see different military vehicles used during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

"It's a fun way for kids to see these pieces of military history," said Wertheim "The day is not only for veterans, but also for family members to know what veteran support is out there."

The expo will have refreshments available for purchase. Those who may have military memorabilia items they no longer want can also donate the memorabilia to the village's history museum. The Orland Park Civic Center is located at 14750 South Ravinia Avenue, one block west of LaGrange Road.

Admission for the show is $5 for adults, $3 for veterans and seniors, and children under 12 are free. For more information about the expo to donate unwanted military items to the village's history museum, contact the Orland Park Veterans Commission at (708) 403-6115.
