Centennial Park Aquatic Center Prepares to Reopen With Restrictions in Phase 3

Lap swimming and swim lessons begin June 15th

Orland Park, IL (June 10, 2020) – Pools are an integral part of summer for so many families, and as temperatures heat up, many are anxious to get back in the water. According to Illinois Gov. Pritzker's office, limited pool activities are able to resume. During Phase 3 of Illinois' reopening plan, swimming facilities licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) can open for lap swimming, swimming lessons, and therapy pool use. Water parks are currently not permitted to open in Phase 3.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), "there is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs or water playgrounds. Additionally, proper operation of these aquatic venues and disinfection of the water (with chlorine or bromine) should inactivate the virus."

The State of Illinois is one of the last to announce its plan to reopen pools, which have been shut down since March. In Indiana and Wisconsin, pools were allowed to reopen on Memorial Day weekend. In Michigan, a state that had some of the most restrictive stay-at-home orders, outdoor pools were allowed to reopen this past Monday, June 8.

Centennial Park Aquatic Center (CPAC)

The Centennial Park Aquatic Center (CPAC) will reopen on Monday, June 15th for lap swimming and swim lessons, with modifications. Under the new State guidance, group sizes will be limited to no more than 10 people, allowing for social distancing where possible. CPAC is allowed to have multiple groups of 10 people with proper social distancing measures and if 30 feet of distancing is maintained between groups. The reopening guidelines have no other restrictions on capacities or number of people per lane.
