2009 Christmas House Decorating Contest Winners

The Village of Orland Park held its second Christmas House Decorating Contest which was open to all residents of single family homes within the corporate limits of the village. Residents could choose from five categories they would like to compete. The categories are: Religious Theme: Best display with a religious theme; Nostalgic: Most old fashioned, best "reminds me of my childhood" display; Clark Griswold: Excessive use of outdoor lighting and decorations; Best Theme: Best continuation of a theme throughout the decorations; and Charlie Browniest: Best decorations on a dog house, tool shed, playset, barn, outhouse…anywhere on the property except the home. Nineteen entries were judged and one winner was chosen in each category.

The 2009 winners are:

Religious Theme: John Drabeck, 13579 S. 86th Avenue, Villa West subdivision
Nostalgic: Jim and Donna Maday, 11708 Burnley Drive, Long Run Creek subdivision
Clark Griswold: Joseph Aurelio, 11012 Mayflower Lane, Countryside subdivision
Best Theme: Dick and Patty Combs, 17127 Hill Creek Ct., Brook Hills subdivision
Charlie Browniest: Raymond Holzinger, 7561 W. Sequoia Ct., Catalina subdivision.

Trustee Kathy Fenton said, "With so many houses in the village decorated during the holidays, we thought it would be fun to have people enter the contest and be recognized for their efforts." She added, "All of the houses entered are worth driving to see and I hope it encourages more people to enter the contest next year."

For those who would like to see all of the houses entered in the contest, the addresses and subdivisions are: 14430 Mason Lane; 8445 Cedar St., Villa West; 14209 Terry Court; Clearview Estates; 8704 Wheeler Drive, Heatherdale; 14240 Creek Crossing, Creekside; 13238 Jean Creek Drive, Palos Springs; 13711 Lindsay Drive, Caro Vista Woods; 8818 W. 147th Street, Fairway; 15414 Anne Drive, Golfview; 13649 Ishnala Woods; 16710 Muirfield Drive, Muirfield; 11617 Burnley Drive, Long Run Creek; 14528 Valley View Drive; Pinewood East; and 8001 W. Salvatori Court.

"We're very grateful to Bright Ideas, Inc. for co-sponsoring this contest," Trustee Fenton said. "Bright Ideas is generously donating a four foot pre-lit Christmas wreath to each of the winners," she added.

The House Decorating Contest winners will be recognized at the January 18, 2010 Board of Trustees meeting. Everyone who entered the contest will receive a Certificate of Recognition.
