The Village of Orland Park will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Sunday, November 11 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the Orland Park Veterans Memorial, Ara Pace - Place of Peace, at the Orland Park Village Center at 147th and Ravinia Avenue.

"Orland Park's Veterans Day Ceremony is the community's way to publicly thank the many veterans who have bravely served our country," said Mayor Dan McLaughlin. "Everyone is invited to join us for the ceremony as we honor the veterans whose names have been added to the village's memorial," the mayor added.

Father Patrick Tierney will offer the ceremony's invocation and McLaughlin will read the names and publicly recognize the 18 veterans and their families whose names have been added to the village's granite wall since Memorial Day.

The 2012 ceremony will include the unveiling of the village's Orland Park Veterans' Photo Display in the lobby of the Frederick T. Owens Village Hall.

"The Veterans Commission has been collecting and posting the photos of the community's many veterans and we're looking forward to its debut on Veterans Day," McLaughlin said.

Orland Park veterans who would like to add their photos to the display before Veterans Day are encouraged to contact Veterans Commission Secretary Gail Blummer at 708/403-6203.

Colors will be presented by Orland Park's local veterans' organizations, the Reber-Tesmond Orland-Palos VFW Post #2604 and the American Legion Orland Memorial Post #111. Bagpiper Mike Cotiguala, a Vietnam Veteran, will lead the processional and Frann Carnivele-Sidlow will sing the national anthem. Gerald Hokkanen and Libby Paulson, students at Orland Junior High School, will present the wreath donated by the school.

Light refreshments will be served inside of the Civic Center immediately following the ceremony and the Village Hall will be open for attendees to view the veterans' photo display.
